KAREN MITCHELL + TRUE INDIAN HAIR

Karen Mitchell   CEO of True Indian Hair & serial entrepreneur is a true boss babe! I got a few minutes from her to ask some question so here's what she had to say.

Can you tell us a little about what inspired you and got you to where you are today?

I am inspired by entrepreneurial risk and the possibility of taking an idea and making it grow into something flourishing and successful.  My main inspiration that pushed me through the years was and still is my mom who recently passed. Mom was the first entrepreneur I knew.  She never saw herself as an entrepreneur but she was, taking her island street vending and limited resources and making it sustainable enough to provide a home and quality of life for her family. That sacrifice and hard work inspired me in my entrepreneurial pursuits.  I am my mom.  The odds were against me but my desire to excel and succeed by being working hard and being disciplined took my hair hustle from small business to a corporate entity and worldwide recognition.

What is some advice you’d give for when the odds are against you?

Don't give up..Be flexible. Learn to evolve and adapt in the midst of the odds.  You cannot keep doing the same thing that is not working. Look for a new path to reach the same goal. Giving up is never an option.

How do you manage stress?

I manage stress through prayer and mediation and my support group which is a group of friends who I can call on during times of stress just to talk.  It's important to recognize what is actually causing the stress so you deactivate some of stress points around it.   Selfcare is very important for balance and sanity.  A spa day should always be on your calendar.
