PATTY DEAN X BLACK FUTURE VINTAGE

What inspired you to get into Pilates?

At the time I was working at a music studio called Larrabee (big studio) and I was torn between continuing to work at the studio or pursue Pilates. I decided Pilates and now I get to physical train music artist which is fun & dope!

How did black future vintage come about?

BLACK FUTURE VINTAGE came about when the fanny pack came back with a vengeance! I said to myself “if the fanny pack can come back so can the 90’s black medallion”. Vintage 90’s accessories have the ability to bring out or complete an outfit. I decided to run with it and build my brand around the 90’s medallion. I will be adding 90’s inspired t-shirts in the near future as well.

What habit do you have now that you wish you started much earlier?

If meditation is a habit. Then meditation is my answer. I wish I had the courage to have started meditation at an earlier age. Belief plays a significant role when it comes to creating and living your dreams. When positive habits are formed navigating through life becomes a little easier.

How do you stay motivated daily?

The night before sets the tone for the next day so I take a bath in oils & salts. I laugh and I call it my witches brew bath..everything is in the tub! I feel like I baptize myself every night after the kids go to bed. I stretch in the tub, meditate and pray. Tubs are sanctuaries & a sacred space for self care. I need a bigger tub..lol

Who had the biggest impact on you while growing up?

Josephine Baker had the biggest impact on me as I was growing up. I would practice making her funny faces. The feeling of leaving America and being received by the French with open arms. I can only imagine. It was a reason why so many African American artist decided to leave and go overseas. I love her bravery and how multidimensional she was. I feel that we thought the same about the world. Banana skirt and ALL!!!!!

What’s the most challenging and rewarding thing as a mother?

The most challenging and rewarding thing as a mother is the different stages rite before your eyes. It is beautiful...and how much mindfulness it takes to stay in the moment because life is always changing rite before our eyes. Accepting the constant change and feeling great about it. In the abyss of gratitude to experience Motherhood such a beautiful sacrifice which expands you.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“I learned how people forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget the way you made them feel.” Dr. Maya Angelou

Making people feel validated is a pillar to my life principles. It only take a few seconds to make genuine eye contact to help someone feel validated.
